May I choose to do a research project or a creative project for my Honours Project?
Yes—first, you must propose a research project and a creative project. After your proposal is accepted, you may consult with your Advisor to discuss which project is best for you. For more information, please consult the online Honours Project Handbook.
What are CPW courses like?
Many CPW courses include reading literary and theoretical texts and writing workshops, which entail writing and revising student work and receiving feedback from the instructor and your peers. Our classes often require a Final Project in the form of a Final Portfolio, rather than a Final Exam.
How is the CPW Programme bilingual?
We have required English and Chinese-language courses in both creative writing and professional writing. You may take electives in either language of your choice. For the Honours Project, it may be written in Chinese or English, depending on your consultation with your Honours Project advisor.
Are any CPW courses writing-intensive?
Yes, for example, both “HUMN/WRIT 2015 Writing Seminar: Workshop in Creative Writing” and “HUMN/WRIT 4007 The Art of Creating Stories: Writing and Appreciation” are writing-intensive courses. They are each offered in parallel sessions with smaller quotas per session (25 students), so there’s more opportunity for more extensive reading, workshopping and revising your writing, and receiving feedback from the instructor.
Does CPW invite guest speakers to share their experiences as writers?
Yes, each year CPW welcomes numerous creative and professional writers to talk about their experiences. Previous guest speakers have included: Adam Johnson (novelist from Stanford University), Jennifer Feeley (Xi Xi’s translator), Jhave Johnston (digital poet), Tony Poon (industry manager, Google), Veronique Greenwood (science writer), 韓麗珠, 黃靜婷(香港舞者), 林日曦, 陳強, 阿Bu(《黑紙》、《100毛》創辦人).
